Author Guideline

El-Hayah is a scholarly journal focuses on the publication of textual or empirical studies, either classical or contemporary in the field of Islamic studies. This journal is a communication medium among reviewers of Islamic studies published in Indonesia. It is published regularly on June and December by Postgraduate of UIN Raden Mas Said Surakarta. The journal invites contribution of reviewers, researchers, academicians, and practitioners of Islamic studies to share their articles in Arabic, English and Bahasa Indonesia. The article will be selected, and then reviewed by blind-review to maintain high scientific level.

General Information

All manuscripts submitted to El-Hayah will undergo a peer-review process. Articles that successfully pass the review and are approved by the Editor will be published. Authors are advised to follow the structure and formatting guidelines below to ensure consistency and quality of the publication.

Manuscript Structure

The manuscript should generally be organized in the following sequence:

TITLE; AUTHORS’ NAMES; AUTHORS’ AFFILIATIONS; ABSTRACT; KEYWORDS; INTRODUCTION; METHOD; RESULTS AND DISCUSSION; CONCLUSION; ACKNOWLEDGMENTS (optional); REFERENCES.

Formatting Guidelines

Manuscript text:

English text: Times New Roman, 12 pt, single spacing (12 pt)

Arabic text: Traditional Arabic, 16 pt, single spacing (12 pt)

Title

The title must be concise (not exceeding 20 words), written in English and Roman script, using Times New Roman 14 pt bold, and centered.

Leave 0 pt space above and 12 pt below the title.

Author Names and Affiliations

Author names are written without academic titles or positions (e.g., Prof., Dr.).

Write full first and last names, without abbreviation.

Provide a clear institutional affiliation for each author, including department/faculty, university, and country.

The corresponding author should be indicated with an asterisk (*) and include an email address.

Author names: 12 pt Times New Roman bold

Affiliations: 12 pt Times New Roman, centered

Use superscript numerals to indicate affiliations.

Abstract and Keywords

The abstract must be self-contained and should not include citations. It should clearly describe the purpose of the study, the methods used, the main findings, and the significance of the results. Avoid unnecessary jargon or uncommon abbreviations.

Length: 100–300 words

Font: 12 pt Times New Roman

The keywords should reflect the essential topics of the article and facilitate indexing and searchability.

Separate keywords using semicolons (;).

Introduction

The introduction should:

Provide an adequate background and literature overview relevant to the study.

Explain the main limitations or research gaps in previous studies.

Clearly state the objectives and novelty of the research at the end of this section.

Avoid listing prior studies one by one; instead, summarize them thematically or methodologically.

Example of novelty statement:

“Although several studies have explored ..., limited attention has been given to .... Therefore, this study aims to .... The objectives of this research are ....”

Method

The Methods section should be described in sufficient detail to enable replication.

If existing methods are used, cite the original sources and describe only relevant modifications. Avoid repeating standard or well-known procedures.

Results and Discussion

Results should be clear and concise, summarizing the key findings rather than presenting raw data.

The discussion should interpret the findings, highlight their significance, and relate them to existing studies. Avoid simply repeating results or providing excessive literature citations.

A strong discussion should:

Explain how the results address the research objectives.

Provide scientific interpretation for each finding.

Compare your findings with those from previous studies.

Identify similarities, differences, and implications.

Conclusion

The conclusion should directly answer the study objectives and highlight the contribution of the work to the field.

Avoid repeating the abstract or merely summarizing results.

Provide scientific justification and, where relevant, suggest practical applications or future research directions.

Acknowledgment (optional)

This section should acknowledge individuals or organizations that contributed to the research, including funding bodies, research advisors, and supporting staff.

Do not include any of the authors’ names.

References

El-Hayah uses the APA 7th Edition reference style.

Authors are required to use reference management software such as Mendeley, Zotero, or EndNote.

Ensure that all references cited in the text are included in the reference list and vice versa.

Use previously published articles in El-Hayah as reference style models.
