Abstract

Mentally retarded students need career guidance strategies so they can develop their creativity and potential. The purpose of this study is to describe the teacher's career guidance strategy in developing the creativity of mentally retarded students at SMA Al Firdaus Sukoharjo. This study uses a qualitative research method with a case study approach. The subjects consisted of counseling teachers, inclusion coordinators and two special accompanying teachers. Data collection techniques with observation techniques, interviews, and documentation. Methods of data analysis using the theory of Miles and Huberman. The results of this study indicate that the career guidance strategies used are instructional strategies (teaching methods) and substantial strategies (interpersonal relationships). With this strategy, teachers can inspire mentally retarded students to develop their talents and interests. Besides that, in terms of developing student creativity, the teacher pays attention to aspects of emotional closeness, namely by giving creative freedom. It was recorded that there were national level champions and alumni who had businesses after they graduated.
