Gender issues in the textbook is a crucial topic as the way students perceive gender in their daily lives might be influenced by what they have learned at school. This research focuses on analysing gender representation in two EFL textbooks used in Indonesian Junior and Senior High School. English for Nusantara, later called textbook 1, and Bahasa Inggris Work in Progress, later called textbook 2 are the titles of the textbooks to be analysed in this research. As the basis of this study, the theory or personal characters by Brugeiiles and Sylvie (2009) was used to analyse the pictures in both textbooks. Using mixed-method research approach, the researcher explored how pictures in both textbooks present gender voices by analysing the frequency of male and female pictures and also the types of activities, both in individual and group pictures. The study reveals that there is an imbalance representation of gender in these two aspects. The study suggests a further and detailed evaluation for EFL teachers in selecting appropriate textbook, specifically related to gender equality at school.
